Assalamualaikum to my fellow brethren..

i'm very interested in this matter. it always come to my mind if i come late for the jumaat prayer (we call it this way :), then what should i do.

my question is: if i come late for jumaat prayer and i never listen to the khutbah and i straightforwardly follow the imam to pray the two rakaat, should i add another two rakaat in my jumaat prayer?

i heard someone said (my friend, i think. i can't recall who) that the two parts of khutbah is the replacement of two rakaat of zuhr. so when we never listen the two khutbah, should we add them or just perform the two rakaat or what?

i'm sorry if my english confuses you, English is my second language. i pray that someone will tell me the truth (supporting hadith etc) so i can have assurance about this..thanks...

"My beloved instructed me never to leave three things until I die: fasting three days of the month, praying Salat al-Witr before sleep, and praying the 2 rak`ats of Salat al-Duha, which is Salat al-Awwabin." Narrated from Abu Hurayra by Ahmad in his Musnad.

In the Hanafi Madhab the 3 Witr is a wajib (neccesary) salaah. It is not fard/obligatory, as there are only 5 fardh salaahs. However, wajib is described as 'the shadow of fardh'; it is very close to being a fardh, but isn't, stressing its iportance above a sunnah, but slightly less than a fardh. It is better (in my opinion) to pray Witr before sleeping, so as to avoid oversleeping and misssing this beautiful salaah.

Even when you are most ired you should still pray 4 fardh, 2 sunnah, and 3 Witr Wajib before sleeping.

And no, Witr is not part of Isha salaah although it is generally read before the final 2 nafl. In your niyyah you don't say, i intend to pray 3 witr wajib isha, but just 3 witr wajib.

However, if you are a new muslim, concentrate on establishing what is fardh first, and then focus on wajib, and then the highly reccomended sunnah's ect at your own pace, until you can pray evrything including nafl; just never leave the fardh.

One can be punished for not praying wajib, highly recommeneded sunnah salaahs ect, other than nafl... its not jist about reward. eg, Fardh = a lot of reward, obligatory salaah, but if one misses a fardh, what does that make it? it means you committed haraam, coz that's the opposite of fardh. all other types of actions also have their opposittes, some punishable while ithers (like not doing a nafl act ect) are not, anda re just rewardabel if one chooses to do htem but no sin is attathced.
